WhatsApp: How to see people’s status without letting them know

Similar to Instagram and Facebook Stories, the instant messaging app WhatsApp has a feature of uploading stories for a period of 24 hours.

Checking who has viewed your WhatsApp status is quite straightforward. After you upload your WhatsApp status, go to the ‘Status’ tab and tap on the Status you uploaded. At the bottom, you will find an eye icon. When you check someone’s WhatsApp status they get to know that you have seen their status.

Tapping on the eye icon will reveal the people who have viewed Status. But if you don't want to appear on the list of status views, here’s how you can do that.

Turn off read receipts

We all know that read receipts work for chats but you can also use it as an official way of checking someone’s status without letting them know. To do so, go to Settings > Account > Privacy > and then toggle ‘Read receipts.’

It also means that you won’t be able to see whosoever has checked your WhatsApp status.

Read in incognito mode or go offline

If you are using WhatsApp for desktop then switching to incognito mode will let you see someone’s WhatsApp status without letting them know. All you have to do is just access the WhatsApp web in incognito mode.

The other way is to simply turn off your mobile data or disconnect it from Wi-Fi. When your device is in offline mode then you can check the contact’s status without letting them know.

From File Manager (Android)

The WhatsApp files are saved in a hidden folder on your device. By accessing them you can view the contact’s WhatsApp status without letting them know. To do so follow the given steps-

Open File Manager > Internal Storage > WhatsApp > Media
Then open the folder named ‘Statuses.’
In this folder, you can see images or videos shared by contacts on WhatsApp.

As you are not opening status directly from WhatsApp, other person w would never know that you have seen their status.
