Google to discontinue basic HTML version of Gmail in January 2024

Google has announced that it will be discontinuing the basic HTML version of Gmail starting in January 2024. This means that all users will be switched to the standard view, which offers a more modern and feature-rich experience.

The basic HTML version of Gmail was designed to be a lightweight and accessible option for users with older devices or slower internet connections. However, it lacks many of the features that are available in the standard view, such as chat, spell check, keyboard shortcuts, and rich formatting.

Google says that it is discontinuing the basic HTML version of Gmail in order to focus on developing the standard view and provide all users with the best possible experience. The company also notes that the basic HTML version is no longer necessary, as most devices and internet connections are now capable of supporting the standard view.

What does this mean for users?

If you are currently using the basic HTML version of Gmail, you will be automatically switched to the standard view in January 2024. You can also switch to the standard view now by clicking on the Standard button at the bottom of the Gmail page.

If you are concerned about the impact of the switch to the standard view, Google recommends that you try it out now and see how you like it. The company also says that it is working on making the standard view even more accessible and user-friendly.
